Babur's army consisted of a mix of Central Asian cavalry, artillery, and infantry, while Ibrahim Lodi's forces were primarily composed of traditional Afghan and Indian troops. The Mughals, with their superior military tactics and artillery, managed to secure victory. Ibrahim Lodi was killed in the battle, and Babur became the first Mughal emperor in India.


The Battle of Panipat had far-reaching consequences, as it laid the foundation for the Mughal Empire's dominance in the region for several centuries. It also marked the decline of the Delhi Sultanate and the end of the Lodi dynasty. The battle is considered one of the largest and bloodiest fought in Indian history, with significant implications for the political landscape of the subcontinent.
